New Straight-Six Engine and 48-Volt Electrical System

The Mercedes-AMG CLS53 will go on sale in the U.S. by the end of 2018, kicking off a new line in the AMG performance stable. Mercedes-Benz has confirmed the CLS' new 53 variants and hinted at more 53s coming later in the E-class family.

All AMG 53 models will be powered by a higher-output version of parent Daimler's new turbocharged 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder engine with a 48-volt electrical system. With the new 53 line, the CLS family will no longer have a top-of-the-line AMG 63 model but will be replaced by a new four-door AMG GT car based on the Mercedes-AMG GT concept that debuted at the Geneva auto show this year.

AMG 53 variants for the E-class coupe and convertible are possible, and the GLE midsize crossover is another candidate for a 53 model. The GLE will be redesigned in 2018 with a likely U.S. on-sale date in early 2019. The AMG model would come after that.

The latest generation of the E63 and the E63 S sees Mercedes-AMG introducing a number of new developments that redefine the performance of this familiar sedan. Innovative powertrain engineering and maximum performance refuse to take the back seat. The design, exclusive equipment, and the latest infotainment features for comprehensive, connected multimedia applications, make the lastest Mercedes-Benz vehicles not only smarter but safer.

Which one of our customers have the latest self-driving Mercedes?

Tesla CEO Elon Musk released Autopilot: a semi-autonomous technology that allows cars to drive down the highway with little-to-no steering input. It's been refined and improved over the years and Tesla leads all automakers in self-driving tech that you can actually buy, until now. Mercedes Drive Pilot is to the steering wheel what adaptive cruise is to stop and go pedals. The Mercedes system allows the driver to hand over direct control of steering and speed, while still supervising the overall operation of the car.

The kicker? The car does 80% of the driving.

A simpler version of Drive Pilot is available today in the 2017 Mercedes E-Class, so if you have one, bring it in! We love examining the intricacies of the new tech.
